Watch, Read, Listen #003

Every Monday, I share three pieces of content I think are worthy of your time. There’s a lot of noise out there. Hopefully this helps cut through the clutter a bit.

How to Beat the Competition Without Lowering Prices from Story Brand

Don Miller & his book, “How to Build a Story Brand” has been a huge influence on me & on the Branding Mechanics Course. In this short video, he talks about how we can add value to our offerings by focusing on the intangibles - the emotional, social, & personal - that come along with the purchase.

“How to Be Successful” by Sam Altman

Sam Altman is the President of Y Combinator (among other things). In this post, he’s listed 13 thought-provoking traits or practices to pursue as you build your entrepreneurial life. My favorites include #3: Learn to think independently (“One of the most powerful lessons to learn is that you can figure out what to do in situations that seem to have no solution. The more times you do this, the more you will believe it”) & #6: Focus (“Almost everyone I’ve ever met would be well-served by spending more time thinking about what to focus on”).

Jim Collins on The Tim Ferriss Podcast

A typically long, & typically rich, interview from Tim Ferriss. This time around, author Jim Collins (“Good to Great,” “Built to Last”) joins him. Lots of good stuff in this episod, but it starts a little slow & off-topic. If you want to jump to the interview-proper, skip to 24:00.
